All incoming freshmen and transferring engineering students
are invited to have a mentor.

How can I find who my mentor is?

Your mentor will typically contact you during the summer. If you forget your mentor's name, you can contact Rachel Levine at rmlevine@engineering. uiowa.edu

Do I need a mentor?

Having a mentor is very advantageous.  Mentors can answer any questions you might have about school or student life in general.  Your mentor can help you adjust to college life, and be a familiar face on campus.

Can I still have a mentor even if I didn't originally sign up?

All you would need to do is contact Rachel Levine, and she can assign you to a mentor at any point during the semester.

Do I need to use engineering e-mail?

We encourage all engineering students to use engineering e-mail, because we send all information and announcements through e-mail. If you forgot your password or need help with the e-mail system or a computer, you can visit the Computer Systems and Support site or go to the CSS Main Office (1256 SC) 319-335-5751 or contact your mentor and ask them to help you.

What kinds of things will I do with my mentor?

We have a welcome party at the beginning of each semester, where you will be introduced to your mentor, other freshmen, faculty and staff members. You are not required to meet with your mentor on a regular basis, but they can serve as a good resource for your needs.  Other suggested activities are:  getting ice cream, attending a UI sporting event, going out for Sunday dinner, meeting to work on homework, going bowling, seeing a movie, etc.
