High School Conference
Each year the UI SWE chapter holds a weekend conference to encourage and excite high school girls to enter the field of engineering, particularly at UI. A series of different events are held to expose them to life at our college and to engineering in general. The girls typically stay overnight on the Women in Science and Engineering floor located in Stanley Hall, in the WISE Learning Community.

Last year's event was April 20-21 and it really was a great time.

The girls got to explore the college of engineering in a more interactive way by getting the opinions and experiences of people who have actually been there and done that. We got to tell the girls what to expect, how to handle college life, and most important of all, how to find your way around the Seaman's Center!

There were some really fun activities planned for the event like a tour of the flight simulator lab and movie night in 1505 SC and even a pizza party where a line of 9 guys were the folly of 35 high school girls as they played "guess the engineer." All in all, it was a great time for everyone.

THIS YEAR: Our High School Conference coordinators are still working on the final plans but stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks!

Mr. Engineer

SWE is in charge of the Mr. Engineer event that is part of Mecca Week at the UI College of Engineering. This year's Mr. Engineer coordinator is not Polly Gassman.
