Information for Coaches
So, you are interested in the JETS-TEAMS competition, but you still have several questions. This page may help you.
- What is the JETS-TEAMS competition?
The Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) hosts an annual competition called Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Matematics, and Science (TEAMS). This national competition is for high school students who are intersted in pursuring a career in Engineering.
Each year more than 100 competition sites bring TEAMS® to nearly 14,000 students nationwide. And participating in this one competition automatically enters you in local, state, and national competition.
- What does the competition consist of?
This competition consists of a two-part test in which members of a high school team work together. (These tests are open-book, open-note, and open-discussion.) It is encouraged that your team uses all the resources possible! The results are calculated that same day and winners are announced at the end of the event.
For more information, and practice questions, please visit: http://www.jets.org/TEAMS/coaches/why.cfm
Schools compete against other schools in their division. Divisions are broken up according to the enrollment at each school.
(Example: A large 4A school will compete another 4A school, and a 1A school will compete against another 1A school.)
- What is the exam like?
Teams, of four to eight high school students, work together on this two-part exam. Part I consists of multiple-choice questions related to engineering situations. Part II requires students to describe and defend their solutions from Part I.
