About Ethnic Inclusion

The College of Engineering continues to remain a national leader in its inclusion effort at the doctorate level. The percentage of underrepresented minorities in the U.S. doctorate student pool (African American, Native American, Hispanic/Latino) is now over 25%. This is one of the highest percentages of U.S. underrepresented minorities in Carnegie Research I doctoral engineering programs in the United States and it is demographically representative of our Nation.

The success of this effort comes from aggressive recruiting efforts of our faculty in conjunction with the Graduate College and our NSF Iowa Regents AGEP program. Fellowship support was provided by the Graduate College, the College’s Department of Education GAANN Fellowship Grant, the Iowa Regents AGEP Program, GEM and University Centers of Exemplary Mentoring.
