Dr. Leroy Magwood, Jr.

Leroy Magwood, Jr. entered the University of Iowa as a GAANN Fellow in the summer of 2004.  During his time at the University of Iowa, he focused on the “Structural Property Development of Hybrid Acrylate/Epoxide Networks," under the direction of Drs. Alec Scranton and Chris Coretsopoulos.

After graduation in the summer of 2009 with a Doctorate of Philosophy from the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Iowa, he joined the Laboratory for Engineering Living Tissue Systems at the University of Oklahoma in the Department of Industrial Engineering under the leadership of Dr. Binil Starly, investigating the use of electrospun nanofibers as a platform for solar energy production, biological and chemical sensing. 

Recently, Dr. Magwood has taken a Senior Scientist position at DSM Functional Materials in Elgin, Illinois, in the UVolve® division (developmental products).  In this position, Dr. Magwood has been charged with securing a market share of the floor coating market (currently our primary product line) through market facing technologies and IP protection as well as development research on complementary products or technologies to aid current business foci.
