The conference brings together local, Midwest, and international entrepreneurs, practitioners, and policy makers to share best practices and discover new synergies for collaboration, cooperation, and commercializaton. L. D. Chen, UI professor and departmental executive officer of mechanical and industrial engineering, will speak at the Renewable Energy break-out sesson. Larry Weber, UI professor of civil and environmental engineering and director of IIHR--Hydroscience & Engineering, will speak at the Sustainable Water & Land Mangement break-out session.

The seminar features Jody Howard (BS 1986 in electrical engineering), director of social responsibility at Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL. Howard also is a member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Advisory Board and the College of Engineering Advisory Board.
The "Grabbing the Globe" Seminar Series is designed to prepare Engineering students for global success. It recognizes UI Distinguished Engineering Alumni Academy member Randall Meyer and his wife, Barbara. Meyer, who earned a UI Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering with highest distinction in 1948, began a 40-year career with Standard Oil Company, New Jersey (now ExxonMobil Corporation) immediately following graduation and served as president of Exxon Company USA in 1972 and chief executive officer in 1976, a position he held until his retirement in 1988.
