BME students patent senior design invention, launch company

University of Iowa senior design team laid the groundwork for commercializing a novel prosthetic device for the lower leg that is designed to adjust as children grow. The adaptable below-the-knee pediatric prosthesis showed enough promise the students filed for a provisional patent and formed a limited liability company, GroLimb, LLC.
Ankrum receives Iowa Mid-Career Faculty Scholar Award

Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering, was among four selected for the award provides funding and development opportunities for outstanding tenured associate professors who have established national or international reputations in their disciplines and are exceptional teachers in and out of the classroom.

BME student wins Sharks’ Top Choice award

Subin Erattakulangara, a University of Iowa PhD candidate in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering, was awarded the Sharks’ Top Choice award at a premier meeting for the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in June 2023 in Toronto.

Born in New Delhi, India, Bhavya Vats immigrated to Iowa about nine years ago with her family. She recently received a BSE in biomedical engineering (BME) from the University of Iowa, and was a recipient of the Academic & Scholarly Achievement Award at the 2023 International Student Graduation Celebration.
