Program Educational Objectives
Program Educational Objectives - This set of Program Educational Objectives has been developed by the EE Departmental faculty as a result of feedback from Program students, alumni and other industrial professionals, a Departmental advisory group, and various Collegiate groups. We define our Program Educational Objectives as professional characteristics that our graduates should exhibit three to five years following their graduation.
Electrical Engineering students must attain the following outcomes by the time the B.S. degree is granted:
- an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
- an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
- an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
- an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
- an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
- an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
- an ability to communicate effectively
- the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
- a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
- a knowledge of contemporary issues
- an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
The following table describes the contributions of the required EE courses to the program outcomes. (PDF format, Word format)
This flowchart illustrates the major events that will occur each academic year in order to assure that the EE Program is converging toward the achievement of its stated Program Educational Objectives and Program Outcomes.
The current EE ABET outcome assessment principles were adopted 10/14/03.
