A letter to international students

Dear Prospective Student:

Thank you for your interest in Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Iowa.

Our goal is to provide graduate education of the highest possible quality. The cornerstone of this effort is a rigorous selection process intended to ensure that our students will be enriched, stimulated, and challenged by the finest minds that we are able to gather together. Because the number of applicants is often 100 times the number of vacancies, it has become necessary to screen all applicants by means of the preapplication form, which is attached to this letter.

All applicants are required to submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination General Test (GRE). Students whose native or official language is not English must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) as well. As soon as both your GRE and TOEFL scores are available, please complete the preapplication form and email it to our department. Do not send any other materials at this time. If you are subsequently invited to apply for admission, complete resume, transcripts, and letters of recommendation will be requested and reviewed before the final admission decision is made.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Professor and
Graduate Committee Chairman
