to that list of successful "twosomes" now add
Iowa's Colleges of Engineering.
For more than a century, Iowa State University and The University of Iowa have served the state of Iowa and the nation as centers of top-flight engineering education. In addition, the engineering colleges have collaborated on innovative applied research. For example, as members of the Biotechnology Byproducts Consortium, engineering faculty at both colleges are focusing on recovering useful byproducts from "waste" streams in grain and livestock production industries. In addition, engineering and medical researchers at The University of Iowa and Iowa State University's Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) are using newer research methods to study problems in biomedical imaging. As members of the Iowa Space Grant Consortium, the colleges are collaborating on many projects of interest to NASA. As the 21st Century progresses, the outstanding talents and resources of Iowa's two Colleges of Engineering will become increasingly important. More than 50,000 engineers have earned their degrees at the two schools, whose unique strengths and specialties truly complement each other.
