The University of Iowa College of Engineering Contributions Toward the State of Iowa's Economic Development Initiatives
In recent years, the foundation of the U.S. economy has shifted focus from traditional manufacturing to a knowledge-based economy. The New Economy refers to the competitive environment in which the pace of technology development and commercialization has dramatically accelerated.
To be competitive in the New Economy, Iowa is showcasing its excellent workforce and focusing on the identified high-wage, high-growth industry cluster areas. A New Economy strategy to foster business growth in three growing industry clusters was studied and endorsed by the Governor’s Strategic Planning Council. Those sectors are Biosciences, Advanced Manufacturing, and Information Solutions/Financial Services.
The University of Iowa College of Engineering participates energetically in all three industry clusters with faculty teaching and research excellence, and key College and University research centers, institutes, and laboratories.
