  • Summer Projects and Summer Staff

ECS does work in the summer than would be too disruptive during the fall and spring semesters. Summer 2014 projects included completely remodeling both 1245 and 3231. The floor in 1245 was replaced, which required removing everything from that room. Once the new floor was installed, all the desks, new computers, new monitors, and the lectern at the front of the room had to be installed and arranged. That same deconstruction occurred in 3231 after 12145 was completed. Fortunately ECS had a crew of willing student employees to help with the summer work: Darrow, Kenny, and Stephanie.

  • 3231 Rebuild

Over the summer 3231 SC was closed so that the room could be reconfigured. The work is completed, and these photos give you some idea about what it takes to completely reorganize this space. The new layout is similar to the old layout -- tables with computers lining 3 walls of the room and seating in the middle for listening to a lecture or watching the instructor demonstrate something. What is new and improved is that the seating in the middle includes power so that students can use their laptops while seated there.

  • Engineering responds to the fall 2011 IT survey

In fall 2011  ITS sent a survey to faculty and staff on campus to gather information about the IT environment, including computers, mobile devices, software, networking, IT support staff, file storage, and email. Most responses indicate people are very or somewhat satisfied with the hardware, software, and services we provide. Of course we like hearing that we are doing a good job, but we learn more from dissatisfied users. Here are some of the comments we got from the 73 people who replied and our responses to those comments.

  • New Wireless Service in SC

ITS, the campus wireless provider, is in the midst of a project to make the wireless service faster and more robust on campus. For this project, ECS collaborated with ITS to improve the wireless coverage. ECS upgraded the internal networking and ITS paid for the new wireless equipment. ITS finished their work in the Seamans Center at the end of July. They installed new wireless access points (APs), increasing the number from  71 to 115 APs.
