    The October 30 webinar will address advanced CFD modeling of bubbles and heat transfer. We will talk about how one university simulated the motion of argon bubbles being injected into molten steel during the continuous casting process, and how another used the Discrete Ordinates radiation model to illustrate thermal processes in solar power receivers.

    Funds for Innovations in Teaching with Technology

    The University of Iowa Academic Technologies Advisory Council will be accepting proposals for the Innovations in Teaching with Technology Awards Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

    The goal of the Innovations in Teaching with Technology Awards program is to raise the level of teaching and learning at the UI by supporting significant and innovative instructional technology projects that have the potential to directly impact student success and retention.

    Engineering Computer Services (ECS) wants to hire a qualified computer system administrator who can write and debug quality computer code, communicate effectively, and understand technical documentation. Desirable skills include proficiency with system and network tools such as editors, debuggers, shell environments; technical and systems administration experience; and knowledge of security, networking and operating system concepts and design. Applicants need two years of relevant experience.

    3231 Open for Use

    After being closed for most of the summer, 3231 SC is open again. This is a computer classroom that has 24 computers for students and an instructor's computer in the lecturn at the front of the room. 3231 has an instructional space in the middle with tables and chairs in a traditional classroom arrangement, but this space includes power so that students can plug in laptop while sitting there. The student computers are arranged along 3 walls of the room so that the instructor can walk around and look at the student's work.
