Dear University of Iowa Researcher: Many grant proposals incorporate a form of engineering design and prototyping to help envision outcomes, track progress, and illustrate achievements. Often, this three-dimensional virtual reality advantage can bring even greater success to the grant -- even expand its life beyond the initial research assignment. Today, there is a technical resource on campus specifically created to assist you in developing your proposal, as well as provide help during virtually every step of the research project, once approved. The College of Engineering Design and Prototyping Center is readily available to handle key components for you, such as:
In fact, the Engineering Design and Prototyping Center -- formerly the Engineering Machine Shop -- has evolved into a state-of-the-art prototyping facility combined with years of experience in supporting research proposals and projects from most colleges and departments at The University of Iowa. This web site is designed to explain the Center's complete services and how its staff has helped numerous research colleagues on campus. Once you have had the opportunity to discover the Center's capabilities, and believe the Engineering Design and Prototyping Center may be able to help you with this research proposal, please contact Dean Macken at (319) 335-5778 or send an E-mail message to r-macken@uiowa.edu. Dean and the Center staff will provide an evaluation of design and prototyping for your research grant proposal, based on the criteria you specify. We look forward to working with you. Sincerely, P. Barry Butler
