In addition to developing a more diverse engineering workforce, donors to Ethic Inclusion benefit from the increasing pool of engineers equipped to work in diverse cultures. The societal impact of engineering is increased as these diversity efforts reach into the community at large. Outreach to K-12 students in the Midwest as well as mentoring of students pursuing undergraduate and graduate engineering degrees is augmented through partnership with the UI College of Engineering. Through these efforts donors have the opportunity to identify and develop relationships with diverse engineering students and make an impression early in their careers.

When I first began at UI it took some time getting adjusted to being one of very few American minority graduate students in the College of Engineering and the only one in my department. Since the implementation of the AGEP and Ethnic Inclusion Effort, I've seen a dramatic increase in the number of minority graduate students in the college. AGEP and Ethnic Inclusion Effort are committed to creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for minority graduate students and giving them the tools and support they need to be successful.
