How We Use You Donation

Ethnic Inclusion Effort for Iowa Engineering is grateful for the generous donations of leading sponsors of this initiative. Financial support provides annual, general operating funds which help staff and carry out the core work of recruitment, campus visits, promotional materials, and web site development. Activities funded by donors include outreach to ethnically diverse communities for recruiting, summer programming, and tutoring. We share our donors’ commitment to diversity and ask for additional partnerships to establish new programs committed to engineering excellence for ethnically diverse students at The University of Iowa.
Through your support Ethnic Inclusion Effort for Iowa Engineering will continue to:
Help solve national ethnic diversity issues in the engineering discipline.
Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment that drives excellence in engineering.
Promote cultural awareness and sensitivity in all Iowa engineers.
Increase enrollment of underrepresented minorities in the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Ph.D. Candidate: Sharon Smith-Tembe
When I first began at UI it took some time getting adjusted to being one of very few American minority graduate students in the College of Engineering and the only one in my department. Since the implementation of the AGEP and Ethnic Inclusion Effort, I've seen a dramatic increase in the number of minority graduate students in the college. AGEP and Ethnic Inclusion Effort are committed to creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for minority graduate students and giving them the tools and support they need to be successful.
