Holiday Food Drive

ESAC's Holiday Food Drive collected more than 500 pounds of non-perishable items for the Crisis Center of Johnson County (jccrisiscenter.org).Thanks to everyone who donated!

Turkey Day Potluck

ESAC hosted a potluck for all College of Engineering faculty and staff on Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the second floor lobby of the Seamans Center. ESAC provided turkey, green bean casserole, hash brown casserole, and water. The event attracted a large, enthusiastic crowd, and many brought side dishes. Melissa Ward won the contest for best side dish for her delicious slaw. She was presented with a cutting board engraved with the ESAC logo.

Iowa River Clean-Up

Thanks to the efforts of 77 volunteers on Saturday, Oct. 12, the Iowa River is now free of about 2.5 tons of trash, including a riding lawnmower, numerous bicycles, tires, and more.

The effort was a collaborative effort that brought together University of Iowa students, staff, and other volunteers to pick up refuse in and along the Iowa River as it flows through Iowa City. Several organizations cooperated to organize the clean-up effort, including the City of Iowa City, the UI Engineering Staff Advisory Council (ESAC), UI Facilities Management, and the UI Office of Sustainability. Many students from campus Greek organizations also took part. The volunteers collected trash from Park Road to Sturgis Ferry.

Faculty/ Staff Recognition Ceremony

Wednesday, May 13 — Recipients of the College of Engineering’s faculty awards for research, teaching, and service were recognized. Recipients of the staff award for research and the Mary Sheedy Staff Excellence Award were honored. Staff members 5, 10, and 15 years of service to the college received awards. Flag Display, 1st Floor Atrium,

April 14–20 — In conjunction with this year's College of Engineering Research Open House, the Engineering Staff Advisory Council and the Ethnic Inclusion Effort for Iowa Engineering co-sponsored an international celebration.  ESAC members installed the flag display (113KB PDF) .

Explore Engineering Series

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 — Participants learned about water purification for the poor and also heard from the Iowa Solar Bike team. The group also visited the CEE Water-Quality Teaching Lab (1246 SC) to see water purification technologies up close. Next, the group moved to the MIE GROK Lab (G445 SC) to see how solar bikes are built. Cookies and punch were served.

Monday, Nov. 19, 2007 — Participants met at IIHR's Stanley Hydraulics Lab, where Prof. Larry Weber, Director, IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering, provided an introduction and overview of IIHR. The group split into two tour groups to visit the world-renowned IIHR facilities, including the tow tank, Model Annex, and Wind Tunnel Annex. Refreshments were served.
