College of Engineering Scholarships (for 2012-2013)
Thanks to the generous donations from alumni and friends, the College of Engineering has over 100 scholarship accounts which provide financial support for admitted and enrolled undergraduate engineering students. Scholarships may be based upon merit and/or financial need.

Scholarships: First Year
The Engineering Excellence Scholarship Application for students applying for admission in fall 2012 will be available by October 2011. (this application for all three scholarships on this page)
Engineering Excellence Scholarship
This scholarship is available for first-year students with excellent academic records. The College encourages and welcomes diversity in the student body, and therefore additional consideration will be given to the applications of U.S. citizens or permanent residents whose enrollment will contribute to a diverse learning environment including race, ethnic background or gender. Women and students from diverse family and personal backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants typically have a 3.70 GPA or above (on a 4.00 scale) or an ACT composite score of 28 or above (or a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1250 or above).
- Value: $1000 to $3000, depending on the number of eligible applicants and awards available.
- In 2011-2012, more than 100 Engineering Scholarships were awarded.
- One-time award for first-year students only
- Deadline: The online application is due Jan. 31, 2012
Electrical & Computer Engineering Scholarship
The ECE Department offers numerous scholarship opportunities for undergraduate EE majors. These may be awarded in addition to scholarships offered by the College of Engineering. Apply by filling out the College of Engineering online scholarship application. Check the box to be considered for ECE scholarships. Be sure to supply all requested information on the application form.
- Scholarships up to $16,500.
- Approximately five new awards each year.
- Open to incoming freshmen students.
- Scholarships are awarded beginning in February.
Electrical & Computer FIRST Scholarships
Admitted engineering undergraduates entering The University of Iowa directly from high school, or transferring from another institution, and are enrolling for classes during fall 2012 semester may apply for The Electrical & Computer Engineering FIRST Scholarships.
An on-line application is required and must be submitted by January 31, 2012. You will be notified of your award by March 1, 2012.
The Electrical & Computer Engineering FIRST Scholarships consists of 3 renewable awards, each for a total of $16,000 over four years. To be eligible to receive an award you must:
- have been admitted and are entering fall classes directly from high school or is transferring into The College of Engineering
- have participated on a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team or a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team
Scholarships: Transfer
The Engineering Transfer Scholarship Application for students applying for admission in fall 2012 will be available by October 2011.
Engineering Transfer Scholarship
This scholarship is available to any transfer student admitted to the College of Engineering for summer or fall 2012 with at least 12 semester hours earned toward the engineering degree and a GPA of 3.25 or above on courses that will be applied toward the engineering degree
- Value: $1,000; one-time award
- Deadline: The online application is due March 31, 2012.

Scholarships: Current Undergraduates
PLEASE NOTE: You must have at least one semester's worth of undergraduate credits at the University of Iowa College of Engineering to be considered a current student on this page.
The College of Engineering has nearly 100 accounts that have been endowed over the years through the generosity of our alumni, private donors, and friends. These scholarships are available only to currently enrolled undergraduates in the College of Engineering. Students must reapply for these scholarships each year they wish to be considered. Although some of the scholarships are awarded based on financial need, most of them are based on a combination of need and merit, or merit alone. Merit is generally described as having a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.In addition, some scholarships have preferred criteria that encourage awarding to a particular geographic area or to someone who participates in certain extracurricular activities.
General Scholarship for Non-First Year Students
Undergraduate students who are enrolled in the College of Engineering are invited to submit a General Scholarship Application that will enable the College of Engineering to consider you for the scholarships listed below. These engineering scholarships are restricted to students who are enrolled full-time (12+ semester hours) in the College of Engineering for Fall 2012 Semester and have completed at least one year of engineering studies. Competition will be fierce because the limited funds are available. Please follow the link below to read descriptions of the scholarships offered and to complete an application form. All materials for the general scholarships are due to 3124 SC by March 31st, 20112. Failure to provide requested information may make you ineligible for some scholarships.
