The third edition of a textbook by Jasbir S. Arora, professor of civil and environmental engineering and acting director of the Center for Computer-Aided Design, has been published.

"Introduction to Optimum Design" is written for Engineering students and practitioners studying optimization and mechanical engineering design.  The third edition specifically provides readers with an organized approach to engineering design optimization that is both rigorous and simple, that illustrates basic concepts and procedures with simple examples, and that demonstrates the applicability of the concepts and procedures to engineerirng deisgn problems.

Arora is an expert in the fields of optimization of structural and mechanical systems, and computational structural mechanics. His present research interests lie in optimization of digital human models, predictive dynamics, and optimization and control of nonlinear systems.
