CBJ Daily: Stanleys Win U of I's First International Impact Award

The University of Iowa has named Richard and Mary Jo Stanley as the first recipients of its new International Impact Award. UI President Sally Mason's presented the award to the couple to kick off the University's 2010 celebration International Education Week.
The International Impact Award was created to recognize distinguished alumni, friends or other individuals who've made important international contributions that have benefitted Iowans.
Mr. Stanley commended the UI's International Programs' work in preparing students and others to be globally competent and comfortable in our increasingly interconnected and interdependent world.
The Stanley-University of Iowa Foundation Support Organization has contributed more than $2 million to various international scholarships, global travel, and other international groups over the past five years. Mary Jo Stanley has served as a director of this organization for some 20 years. The Stanley family has encouraged and supported international outreach programs for many years.
Richard Stanley (MS 1963 sanitary engineering), a Muscatine native is chairman emeritus of Muscatine-based Stanley Consultants, which provides engineering, environmental and construction services across the globe. He is also chair, and Mary Jo is director emeritia, of the Stanley Foundation, a private operating foundation that seeks a secure peace with freedom and justice based on world citizenship and effective global governance.
