CLE4R, a new collaborative effort between the University of Iowa, the City of Dubuque, and Dubuque-area partners to improve air quality in Dubuque and the surrounding Upper Mississippi River Valley communities, will hold the first training for its partner organizations from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, at the Multicultural Family Center, 1157 Central Avenue, Dubuque, IA.

The “CLEAR” in CLE4R stands for CLEan Air in the River Valley. The “4” in CLE4R stands for Environmental Education, Technology, Partnerships, and Planning. CLE4R was started in October 2015.

The initial January training is open to media.  Future trainings in February and beyond will be available for the public. 

CLE4R partner organizations include the City of Dubuque,, the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency Green Vision Education Program, the Petal Project Green Business Certification Program, Green Dubuque, the University of Dubuque, and the Dubuque Community School District. 

One of the main components of the CLE4R project, funded by an EPA Environmental Education Grant, is testing whether newly available hand-held pollution

sensors are a good tool for environmental training. The AirBeam sensors selected for CLE4R will be debuted for the project partners on Thursday.
