College Co-Sponsors Advanced Manufacturing Conference

Manufacturing consultant and former Industry Week Editor John Brandt will be keynote speaker for the second Iowa Advanced Manufacturing Conference May 14 at Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, IA.
The College of Engineering is a co-sponsor of the conference.
The conference seeks to promote advanced manufacturing innovation and excellence, to provide companies with strategies and tools, and to discuss the needs of the manufacturing work force with educators. Manufacturers, educators, and economic development professionals from across the state are expected to attend.
The conference has more than a dozen sponsors, includ ing Rockwell Collins, Kirkwood Community College and the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
Brand is the founder and chief executive officer of the Manufacturing Performance Institute, a Shaker Heights, Ohio-based business research firm. The company is performing research projects in areas ranging from automotive manufacturing to beauty supply chain management, on topics that include financial process metrics, customer value analysis, and bench mark performance metrics.
Before joining Manufacturing Performance Institute, Brandt served as editor of Industry Week magazine and Chief Executive magazine. He will speak on manufacturing industry best practices and performance benchmarks. His analysis and remarks will be tailored to small and medium sized manufacturers.
Jim Brazell, consulting analyst in the Texas State Technical College System, will be luncheon speaker for the conference. He will speak on Innovation, Workforce and Education Mergers.
Other speakers will include Mike Tramontina, director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development and Andrea Frederickson, senior coach at the American Institute of Management. More than 250 representa tives of Iowa manufacturers are expected to attend the conference, along with educators and economic development professionals.
The one-day conference will be held at Kirkwood’s new Center for Continuing Education at 76th Avenue and Kirkwood Boulevard. Registration costs $125 through today, and $145 for late registrants, and includes lunch and program materials.
