ESW Featured in National Engineers Week Video

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

The University of Iowa chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) is featured in a video produced for National Engineers Week's "Discover Engineering" program.

The video, "Engineers for a Sustainable World (Purifying Water & Making A Difference)," is one of three offered by the National Engineers Week organization for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and math.

The UI video shows how to "make gross, nasty water drinkable."  Students learn about water filtration, build a system that works, and drink the water to prove it.  They understand how engineering helps developing communities around the world with this critical need.

The "Discover Engineering" web site also is a resource for educators and includes teaching aids and materials that correspond to each of the technologies and lessons in the video.

In addition to "Purifying Water & Making A Difference," the other videos feature "Computer Game Designers (Wind Turbines & Software Design)" and "The Amazing Solar Decathlon (Renewable Energy & Solar Cooking).
