Iowa City Public Schools Hold Second Annual Candace Carmichael Elementary School Art Exhibit
An exhibit of more than 200 pieces of art created by Iowa City public school students in kindergarten through sixth grade was on display last weekend in the second-floor lobby of the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences on the University of Iowa campus. The exhibit honors the late Candace Carmichael, a long-time art educator in the Iowa City Community School District who died in 2011. Candace was the wife of Greg Carmichael, Karl Kammermeyer professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, former associate dean for graduate programs and research in the UI College of Engineering, and co-director of the Center for Computer-Aided Design.
A native Iowan, Candace taught in the Iowa City School District since 1978, first at Southeast and Northwest Junior High schools and various elementary schools, and most recently at Horn and Shimek Schools.
