Jenna Smith Wins National Dialysis Contest

Monday, December 17, 2007

Jenna Smith, a senior in civil engineering, has won the national "Kidney Dialysis Idol" competition. Next summer, she will take a seven-day, six-night cruise to Alaska with dialysis treatment aboard the ship rather than bringing her own equipment.

Judges narrowed down 2,000 national submissions to four finalists. Then a weeklong online popular vote was held to determine a winner for the contest, sponsored by DaVita, Inc., a California-based company that provides dialysis treatments and support services for patients diagnosed with chronic kidney failure.

Her story is told online at the DaVita website at http://www.davita.com/kidneyidol/winner/.
