University of Iowa News Release
Andrew Kusiak, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering, has been appointed to the editorial board of the new journal IEEE Trans on Sustainable Energy, a publication of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), for a two-year period, effective Jan. 1, 2010.
Kusiak, who conducts research and teaches in the field of wind energy, said the publication likely will become the leading journal in the field. The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering currently offers wind turbine design and wind power management courses to senior undergraduates and graduate students.
In April, the Iowa Alliance for Wind Innovation and Novel Development (IAWIND), a collaborative project led by the college of engineering, received a $3 million, three-year grant from the Iowa Power Fund, a part of the Iowa Office of Energy Independence. The grant enabled the collaborative project, begun in 2008, to continue helping the state attract wind energy companies and related industries in an effort to enhance Iowa's already high position as a U.S. leader in wind-generated energy. Last year, Iowa captured the No. 2 national position in wind energy generation capacity.
