October 10 Grabbing the Globe Seminar to Feature “Soft Skills for a Hard World”

WEB NOTE:  The seminar will be held in C20 Pomerantz Center.

Engineering alumnus Donald Doerres II (BS 1973 electrical engineering) and his wife, Denise Blommel, will present a special college-wide Grabbing the Globe seminar from 5:00-5:50 p.m. Thursday, October 10, in C20 Pomerantz Center.  The topic is relevant to both undergraduate and graduate students.

The seminar is co-sponsored by the Hanson Center for Technical Communication and the College of Engineering.

Doerres (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/donald-doerres/3a/547/853) and Blommel (http://www.linkedin.com/in/deniseblommel) have given their presentation -- which focuses on workplace communication and conflict resolution -- in many venues, including the San Jose Embedded Systems Conference, Desert Code Camp and Gangplank. Blommel is a longtime labor/employment attorney and mediator. Doerres is an engineer at Orbital Systems and has 40 years of experience in corporate America and is a trained mediator.

The seminar recognizes the late UI Distinguished Engineering Alumni Academy member and former Exxon USA president Randall Meyer (BS 1948 with highest distinction in mechanical engineering) and his wife, Barbara.
