Ozbolat, Yu Receive Best Paper Award at IIE Conference and Expo

Ibrahim Ozbolat, assistant professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and co-director of the new Advanced Manufacturing Technology Group at the Center for Computer-Aided Design, and biomedical engineering doctoral student Yin Yu received the Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference Manufacturing and Design Track Best Paper Award at the Institute of Industrial Engineers Annual Conference and Expo 2013 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The title of the paper presented was "Cell Viability Characterization of Bioprintable Blood-vessel-like Cellular Channels towards 3D Organ Fabrication".

Ozbolat is leading the University of Iowa's Biomanufacturing Laboratory (BioMfG), specializing in bio-printing for organ fabrication, and the Electronic Manufacturing Team, and supervising the Design for Manufacturing Laboratory. He has been engaged in several projects sponsored by governmental agencies and private corporations in applications ranging from design and manufacturing to clinical medicine and energy.  Yu's research interests are stem cells and organ printing.
