Gene F. Parkin, Donald E. Bently Professor of Engineering, professor of civil and environmental engineering, and director of the UI Center for Health Effects of Environmental Contamination, will be honored May 1 with a special seminar, titled "Frontiers in Environmental Biotechnology: A Tribute to the Career of Gene Parkin."  Parkin will retire from the University of Iowa in June.

The symposium will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Stanley Auditorium, 1505 Seamans Center.

  • Bruce Rittmann, Regents Professor, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, Arizona State University; Director, The Biodesign Institute, Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology, and Distinguished Sustainability Scientist, Global Institute of Sustainability.
  • Ed Bouwer, Chair and Abel Wolman Professor of Environmental Engineering, Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at the Johns Hopkins Water Institute,
  • Paige J. Novak, (PhD 1997) Professor, Department of Civil, Environmental and Geo-Engineering, University of Minnesota, faculty researcher, BioTechnology Institute and Co-Director, MnDRIVE: Advancing Industry, Conserving our Environment.

Following the symposium, a brief reception will be held on the Fethke Rooftop Terrace, 4210 Seamans Center, in honor of Parkin’s retirement.
