Peeples Receives 2011 Brody Award
Tonya Peeples, professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and director of Ethnic Inclusion Effort for Iowa Engineering, is the recipient of the 2011 Michael J. Brody Award for Faculty Excellence in Service.
The award is given in recognition of the importance of faculty service to the quality of the university and honors members of the faculty who have made exceptionally effective contributions over several years or over the course of an entire career.
Ethnic Inclusion Effort for Iowa Engineering is a program designed to improve ethnic inclusion among engineering graduates and provide a model for other institutions interested in eliminating the disparity in ethnicity in engineering. Through Peeples' efforts, the College of Engineering continues to remain a national leader in its inclusion effort at the doctorate level. It has one of the highest percentages of U.S. underrepresented minorities in Carnegie Research I doctoral engineering programs in the nation.
Formal presentation of the award will occur at the faculty and staff award banquet October 4.
