Project Lead the Way Presents at Iowa State Capitol February 14

Iowa Project Lead the Way, Inc. (PLTW), the Iowa edition of a national, nonprofit organization helping schools give middle and high school students knowledge needed to excel in rapidly growing U.S. high-tech fields, will hold its Third Annual PLTW Legislative Day from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, in the Iowa State Capitol Rotunda.

Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds will speak at 11:00 a.m. PLTW CEO Vince Bertram will honor Lewis Central High School as a Model School at 12:00 Noon.

Legislators will learn how middle schools, secondary education, higher education, business, state agencies, and PLTW collaborate in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education at more than 100 schools. PLTW students will display engineering notebooks, portfolios, and projects to show the relationship between the projects they designed and STEM skills used.

Iowa PLTW is a partnership between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University engineering colleges. Participating schools demonstrate commitment to PLTW programs by inviting teachers to attend rigorous summer training sessions, teaching PLTW courses using the latest computer software, and maintaining a yearlong commitment to teacher and counselor training.
