Ratner Receives EPSCoR Leadership Award

Al Ratner, associate professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, has received the first EPSCoR Leadership in Outreach and Mentoring Award.

Ratner was recognized for mentoriong junior faculty, advocating for summer interns, and making more spaces in his lab for students.

The award carries a $500 stipend with it.

The award was announced at Iowa EPSCoR’s Annual All-Hands Meeting July 22-23, 2013 at the University of Northern Iowa.

Iowa’s Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) is aimed at building research capacity and increasing competitiveness for the State of Iowa through investments in infrastructure and human capital.

EPSCoR provides support for key research areas at Iowa’s Regents Institutions, while establishing partnerships with the state’s community colleges, private colleges, school districts, government agencies and industries. The ultimate goal is to stimulate lasting research infrastructure improvements for the State of Iowa.
