Raza, Nano Lab Featured in Journal of Physics
A paper published by Hassan Raza, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering who also leads the UI's Nanoscale Devices and Systems Lab, is featured in the Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter Highlights of 2009 -- a collection of outstanding papers published in the journal over the last year. The articles were selected by the editorial board on the basis of a range of criteria including referee endorsements, citations and download levels, and simple broad appeal.
The article is on "Field modulation in bilayer graphene band structure." Raza and collaborator Edwin C. Kan of Cornell University have analyzed strain effects on the bilayer graphene using the extended Hückel theory and have found that reduced interlayer distance results in higher band gap modulation.
