Public invited to volunteer at event June 2
The University of Iowa Engineering Staff Advisory Council (ESAC), along with UI Facilities Management and the Office of Sustainability, will hold a Riverwalk Clean-Up project from 9 to 11 a.m Saturday, June 2.
UI College of Engineering employees and other volunteers (age 18 and older) are invited to help pick up trash along the banks of the Iowa River from the pedestrian bridge near Hancherto the railroad bridge just north of Benton Street. Volunteers can park in UI Lot 25 on Riverside Drive; registration and check-in will take place near the UI Water Plant, 208 West Burlington St., at 8:30 a.m.
Brandon Barquist, chair of the river clean-up committee, says the project is part of ESAC’s commitment to community service. “As members of the university community and especially as staff of the College of Engineering, we feel a special attachment to the river and the environment we work in every day. We’re glad to have this opportunity to help make things a little better.”
Elected by their co-workers, ESAC members facilitate communication within the college, represent staff to the administration, and promote staff involvement. Organizing service projects, such as the Riverwalk Clean-Up, is part of ESAC’s mission.
Prizes and refreshments will be provided.
