The Iowa Senate voted 50-0 to reshape some renewable energy incentives by retooling 260 megawatts of unclaimed tax credits and extending the deadline for claims by three years. Senate File 2450 also made the credits transferrable, available to self generators and applicable to forms of taxation other than the income tax.
Sen. Rob Hogg, D-Cedar Rapids, said other features would expand Iowa’s wind-energy industry by authorizing state banks to take equity interests in wind production facilities. The bill also authorizes the Iowa Utilities Board to track and verify the trading and sale of “green credits” in Iowa.
