Soberanis Recognized with 2009 Hawkeye Leadership Award

Policarpio Soberanis, a PhD student in industrial engineering, was one of eight UI students honored during the past academic year with Hawkeye Leadership Awards.

Soberanis, from Belize City, Belize, and a member of the Multi-Ethnic Engineering and Science Students Association (MESA), was recognized for "Outstanding Contribution to a Greater Community: a leader who is working to improve the greater community."

He is interested in human computer interaction and ergonomics, and is involved with the Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety, which provides graduate training, continuing education and outreach in the area of occupational health and safety.

The awards are sponsored by the UI Office of Student Life and Student Government.
