UI Engineers to Host Automotive Engineers Meeting

The University of Iowa's Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics Laboratory, located within the UI College of Engineering Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, will host a meeting of the Society of Automotive Engineers Fatigue Design and Evaluation (SAEFDE) committee Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 8-10, in the Iowa Memorial Union.
Ralph Stephens, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, is serving as meeting host and organizer.
The theme of the meeting is "Retrospect, Present, and Future with SAEFDE and Fatigue in General." The speakers at the meeting will represent companies from the ground vehicle industry as well as several Midwestern universities and will include: Ford, General Motors, John Deere, Caterpillar, the University of Illinois, The University of Toledo, Kansas State University and the UI. Two UI Alumni, Kevin Lease and Ali Fatemi, will present papers at the main committee meetings. The SAEFDE committee was formed in the early 1960s and has continued to meet bi-annually.
