UI Engineers Without Borders to Host Friendraiser
The event will support the Ghana Program. The current focus of the project is to provide more clean water access for the community and to improve sanitation. In the summer of 2011 the team will implement a borehole that will be connected to a water tower to allow large quantities of water to be stored for local use. The group is also hoping to implement a series of small group based latrines, 3-4 families to a latrine. To learn more about the project, go to http://www.engineering.uiowa.edu/news/newsDetail.php?newsID=697
Admission is free. This year's event will give guests the opportunity to experience Ghanaian culture. UIEWB will be serving traditional Ghanaian rice along with breadsticks and salad from Olive Garden & Texas Road House.
There will also be a silent auction held for authentic Ghanaian artwork along with chances to win over 30 gift cards to restaurants in Iowa City.
The group's in-country contact and translator, Benjamin Kusi, will be coming to America for the first time especially for this event. He will give an update on the current projects in Ghana and tell a few stories about how these projects have changed people's lives.
The group requests an RSVP via Facebook. If you cannot RSVP -- No problem! Just join them at Old Brick.
