University of Iowa News Release

The University of Iowa College of Engineering will host the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) University Summit June 28-29 at the Seamans Center on the UI Campus.

More than 100 wind energy experts from industry and academic institutions are expected to attend the meeting, which will feature discussions of curriculum and career opportunities, as well as examples of industry and university relationships including the partnership between the UI and ACCIONA Energy NA's assemble plant in West Branch, Iowa.

The UI currently offers a variety of courses on wind energy topics including wind turbine fundamentals and wind power management. As a teaching device the university also maintains a 2.4 kW wind turbine, purchased in 2010 through a grant from University Summit co-sponsor IAWIND (Iowa Alliance for Wind Innovation and Novel Development), a collaborative project led by the UI College of Engineering.

AWEA is a national trade association representing wind power project developers, equipment suppliers, service providers, parts manufacturers, utilities, researchers and others involved in the wind industry.
