Villarini Receives Two Awards
Gabriele Villarini, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering and assistant research engineer at IIHR--Hydroscience & Engineering, recently received two honors.
Villarini was the recipient of the Premio Evangelista Torricelli, a prestigious Italian award presented by the Gruppo Italiano di Idraulica (Italian Group of Hydraulics). The award presentation on Sept. 10 in Brescia, Italy, was part of the XXXIII Conference of Hydraulics and Hydraulic Engineering. The Premio Evangelista Torricelli is presented every two years and goes to the best young Italian researcher (under age 34) working in hydraulics and hydrology.
Villarini presented a lecture following the awards ceremony, titled “Extreme Events and Climate Change.” The award also included a check for 5,000 euro.
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) has chosen Villarini to receive the “Hydrological Sciences Outstanding Young Scientist Award.” The award ceremony will take place at the next EGU conference in Vienna next April.
