Larry Weber, IIHR director and professor of civil and environmental engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering, has been appointed a member of Gov. Chet Culver's Floodplain Management and Hazard Mitigation Task Force.

The task force is a part of Gov. Culver's Rebuild Iowa Office, established June 27, 2008, to oversee recovery efforts following the floods, tornadoes and severe weather of 2008. Additional information on the organization may be found by visiting http://www.rio.iowa.gov/index.html.

At IIHR, Weber has been instrumental in assisting hydraulic engineers and staff to use laser radar (lidar) in mapping river water levels in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City corridor, to map the Clear Creek watershed region of continuing IIHR research projects, to study floods in general, and to prepare for any future floods along the Iowa River in particular.
