Whitaker Receives STEM Award

Becca Whitaker, program manager for Iowa's FIRST Tech Challenge through the College of Engineering, has been recognized as an innovator in science, technology, engineering, and science (STEM) by the the Technology Association of Iowa.  The college is a FIRST Tech Challenge Affiliate Partner.  Whitaker also is interim regional hub manager for the Iowa Governor’s STEM Scale-Up Initiative. 

She was recoginized for her efforts in growing the number of FIRST robotics teams from two to 65, and has created opportunities for more than 1,200 students — including girls and under-represented students — to experience STEM projects.

Eight professionals and academics were presented with Women of Innovation Awards; two students were also named winners and given scholarships of $2,500 each.
