First Year Student Scholarships for 2010 Fall Semester
Carefully read the following before applying.
Admitted Engineering Undergraduates entering The University of Iowa directly from high school and enrolling for classes during summer or fall 2010 semester may apply for The Excellence and Opportunities Scholarships.
An on-line application is required and must be submitted by January 31, 2010. You will be notified of your award by March 1, 2010.
The Excellence Scholarship consists of 100 awards of $1,500 each. To be eligible to receive an award you must:
- have been admitted and are entering summer or fall classes directly from high school
- have a high school GPA of 3.70 or higher (on a 4.00 scale)
-OR-
an ACT composite of 28 or higher
-OR-
an SAT critical reading + math score of 1250 or higher
The Opportunities Scholarship consists of 50 awards of $2,000 each. To be eligible to receive an award you must:
- have been admitted and are entering summer or fall classes directly from high school
- have unmet financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid
-OR-
be underrepresented in the field of engineering, i.e.
Female
African-American
Alaskan Native
Hispanic/Latino(a)
Native American/American Indian
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander
The on-line application requires:
- you to log-in with your Engineering ID
- short answers of 200 words or less to the following four questions:
- Why are you interested in becoming an Engineer?
- Describe a situation where you have been a positive influence in someone's life,
or an occasion where you have provided leadership. - Please give an example of a time when you successfully persevered in a
challenging situation. What contributed to your success? - Is there anything else you want the scholarship committee to know about you?
