Jane Dorman | Nancy Schneider | Megan Allen | Phil Jordan | Kelli Delfosse
Rebecca Whitaker | Scott Hansen| Kristie Leeman

The student development staff is eager to help students with any need. Each staff member has several years of experience and they work hard daily to assist College of Engineering students.

Jane Dorman-Director of Admissions and First-Year Experience

I am responsible for recruiting academically talented (and interesting) engineering students and guiding them through their first-year in engineering. A few of the things that I do: review files and decide who gets admitted into the College of Engineering, meet with individual students and groups of prospective students and their parents, develop publications, host Explore Engineering@Iowa programs, and respond to lots of e-mail and phone calls. I also supervise a team of student ambassadors, oversee the Engineering Connection mentoring program, work with the Men in Engineering learning community, teach a College Transition class and the Engineering first-year seminar.

I am originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin and definitely a Packer fan! I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a double major in business and psychology, and then from Northern Illinois University with a masters degree in counseling. I have lived in Iowa City since 1993. I have three children: Katrina, a social work graduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Patrick, a high school senior, and Ryan, a 7th grader.

In addition to work in admissions, I have been the director of a Student Support Services program in Illinois and the assistant to the director of Residence Services at Iowa. I've been with the College of Engineering since 1997. The best part of my job in Engineering is getting to know so many wonderful people at such an exciting and important time in their lives.

I can be reached by e-mail at engineering@uiowa.edu or by making an appointment to meet with me in the Student Development Center.

Nancy Schneider-Scholarships/Academic Advising

As an academic advisor at the Student Development Center, I advise all entering students at orientation, undeclared engineering students,
and I am a resource to students on probation. I encourage students to make appointments with me to discuss a variety of topics ranging from grades and classes to personal issues. I am also responsible for the administration of all undergraduate engineering scholarships. I am the course instructor for Leadership in Engineering (056:056) and I am the coordinator of Student Leadership Institutes.

I have been with the College of Engineering for 14 years and enjoy interacting with students every day. My position was created when the Student Development Center was considered a one-stop-service, which has since grown into a full academic and professional service for students. I received a BA in education, a masters in counseling and a masters in post secondary student development all from The University of Iowa. I am a national certified counselor, certified facilitator of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and I am certified by Franklin Convey as a personal coach.

Megan Allen-Student Records Manager/Academic Advising

I am Megan Allen, the Student Records Manager for the College. My role includes meeting with prospective transfer students, undeclared advising, study abroad, and ensuring all of the students are meeting their degree requirements. I also coordinate the tutoring program, as well as hiring new tutors. Students who have questions regarding forms, or their student file should contact me by email or by phone.

I was born in Illinois, moved to Michigan, California then graduated from High School in Indiana. After many majors and challenges, I graduated with my Bachelors of Liberal Arts in Sociology from The University of Iowa. I will complete in March 2008 a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management.

Prior to joining the College of Engineering in March 2004, I was at home taking care of my kids for a little while after leaving a Project Manager position at Pearson Education. While at Pearson, I built databases for a State Assessment software program.

I now reside in the big town of Riverside, Iowa with my husband Terry and three children Tyler (5), Jacob (4), and Kylie (1). My family comes first in my life, we are lucky to have both sets of grandparents close as well as many aunts and uncles. When and if I get a free moment I try to catch up on what the celeb are up to, so with my lifestyle sometimes I am behind the times!

Rebecca Whitaker- K-12 Outreach Coordinator

Rebecca Whitaker

Hello! I am the K-12 Outreach Coordinator, which means, I introduce students to the field of engineering. I love it!

Part of my responsibilities is to coordinate Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program for the College of Engineering. PLTW is a curriculum based program that exposes middle and high school students to the field of engineering.

Kelli Delfosse-Associate Director, Professional Development

As the Associate Director of Engineering Professional Development, I direct the on-campus interviewing activities for the college, oversee the planning of two annual Engineering Career/Job Fairs and work with employers on increasing their presence on campus. In addition, I advise engineering students with professional development questions including resume/cover letter writing, interviewing, job search strategies, and job offer evaluation/negotiating. Most recently, I have began assisting with summer orientation advising.

Originally from Iowa, I graduated from The University of Iowa with a B.B.A. in Marketing and Management. I have been working in the Student Development Center since September 2003 and currently reside in Cedar Rapids.

I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, IA. Received my B.A. from The University of Iowa in communication studies and art, and my M.F.A. from Indiana State University in drawing and painting. My wife, Sarah, and I moved back to Iowa City in 1997 and in 2007 our son, Evan, was born. We had our second son, miles, in 2003 and for 31/2 years I was lucky enough to stay home and play dad. In my spare time I still find time to draw in my homemade sketchbooks (currently on #410), play my guitars, work on building guitars, watch a few movies, run, and serve as an assistant coach for my son's soccer team, as well as spending time with family.
