Last year UI President Sally Mason announced a university initiative on sustainability. Craig Just, collegiate coordinator for engineering sustainability progrms, will tell how the College is leading the way on this initiative. Introduction of the Operator Performance Laboratory (OPL) and Tour of the Flight Operations Research Hangar hosted by Tom Schnell, associate professor of Industrial and Mechanical Engineering and director of the the Operator Performance Laboratory.

Highlights include Computerized Airborne Research Platform (CARP); A36 Bonanza Simulation; 737 Simulator; Instrumented Lexus; and Joint Strike Fighter Simulators.

The OPL conducts research on human-in-the-loop and intelligent autonomous systems to increase efficiency, inter-operability and safety.

Professor Schnell is a commercial pilot, flight instructor, CAP mission pilot, and certified (JLFC) formation pilot, and has glider and CE-500 type ratings.
