TITLE: DICOM - 2nd part, media storage and implications for the UIIG library

Abstract:

While the first part of the talk on October 29 focused on dataset contents, encoding, and networking aspects of the DICOM standard, the second part will introduce the media storage definitions. It will also give detailed information on implementation and usage of the DICOM file reader within the scope of the UIIG::CImage class. A comprehensive example is the biplane DICOM reader developed at the ECE department within the Angiography/IVUS Fusion project. It utilizes the UIIG::CImage classes for the pixel data, while obtaining the patient and acquisition data directly from the underlying DICOM library. Time permitting, the talk will also address limitations of the standard and the UIIG implementation, implications for relayed DICOM data exchange through firewalls, and other topics of interest.
