The general application will enable the College of Engineering to consider you for funding for which you may be eligible. Engineering scholarships are restricted to students who are enrolled full-time (12+ semester hours) in the College of Engineering by Fall 2008. Failure to provide requested information may make you ineligible for some scholarships. Applications will be made available in the beginning of April. All engineering scholarship recipients' transcripts are monitored throughout the year for maintenance of minimum scholarship criteria.
In order to apply:
- Carefully read the descriptions (below) of the scholarships offered through this application process.
- Applicant must be enrolled in the College of Engineering as a full-time student and in good academic standing in order to be considered for any scholarship.
- All applicants must submit a resume along with the application.
- Submit a typed essay if applying for a scholarship that requires you to do so. Read the descriptions below to see which scholarships require essays.
- Submit a letter of recommendation if scholarship requires you to do so. Read the descriptions below to see which scholarships require a letter of recommendation.
- All engineering scholarship recipients will be required to submit a thank you letter for review; agree to make revisions, if requested; and send a handwritten thank you to the scholarship donor before scholarship funding will be released.

Engineering scholarships have been generously funded by the following corporate and individual donors:
Accenture
Awarded to a senior, graduating in May 2009. Must be interested in careers in consulting, and opportunity to apply engineering knowledge and principles in solving business and technology-related problems. Student must possess leadership qualities and the ability to juggle multiple activities. Applicant must display strong academic performance, a 3.2 GPA or better and be a US citizen.
Alcoa Scholarships for Diverse Engineering Students
First –year women and underrepresented minorities; upper-class women and underrepresented minorities pursuing electrical, industrial or mechanical engineering.
Caterpillar
Women and underrepresented minorities pursuing chemical, electrical, industrial or mechanical engineering with a UI cumulative GPA of 2.8 or better, must be a US citizen or permanent resident, financial need.
Cerner
Awarded to an electrical and computer engineering major, junior/senior standing during the year of actually receiving the scholarship, not at time awarded. Cerner prefers supporting a student with junior standing, Minimum GPA of 3.0., Relevant work or internship experience in the field of computer technology (preferred, but not required), Relevant work or internship experience in the healthcare industry (preferred, but not required).
Deere & Co.
Awarded to women and underrepresented minorities pursuing electrical, industrial or mechanical engineering, academic achievement.
Howard R. Green Company
Awarded to a student in junior or senior status pursuing a Bachelors Degree in civil or environmental engineering with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship. Preference will be given to students who have participated in engineering student organizations and are seeking employment in Iowa post graduation.
Pella Corporation
Awarded to a junior classification by the end of spring semester, Must display leadership skills such as positions held in the classroom or outside activities including student and community organizations, volunteerism, paid jobs during school, etc., Must display strong academic performance, a 3.0 GPA or better, Must be pursuing a chemical, industrial or mechanical engineering degree. Female/Minority students are strongly encouraged to apply.
Rockwell Collins Education Fund
Awarded to students who have completed 32 sh toward electrical & computer, industrial or mechanical degree by the end spring 08 semester. Applicant must possess strong leadership skills such as positions held in the classroom or outside activities and be able to juggle multiple activities at once. Must display strong academic performance, a 3.0 GPA or better. Preference will be given to women & minorities, Preference will be given to applicants who are available to consider an internship or co-op opportunity with Rockwell Collins.
Stanley Consultants Charitable Foundation
Awarded to a student with junior status who has a strong inclination toward a career in the field of consulting engineering; and majoring in chemical, mechanical, electrical, civil or environmental engineering. Must display leadership skills such as positions held in the classroom or outside activities including student and community organizations, volunteerism, paid jobs during school, etc. Must display strong academic performance, a 3.0 GPA or better in their engineering major. In the case of equally qualified candidates, financial need and female/minority status will be given consideration.
Melville F. Clements Scholarship
Scholarship awarded on the basis of scholastic ability, promise of professional success in engineering, qualities of leadership, and, financial need.
C. P. McGrath Memorial Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of financial need, reasonable academic progress toward graduation, to sophomore, junior or senior students with first preference given to students from Iowa.
Frederic G. Higbee Memorial
Supports undergraduate scholarships.
Archie A. Alexander Memorial
Awarded to outstanding students who have completed his or her sophomore year.
Tom Dimond Fund for Excellence in Engineering
Awarded to talented and deserving students.
David R. Buchanan Scholarship
Awarded to five students from biomedical, chemical and biochemical, electrical and computer, or mechanical. The recipients shall be native born, U.S. citizens and will be selected based primarily on academic excellence, with financial need a secondary consideration.
Forrest and Adah Kehn Scholarship
To support undergraduate scholarships.
Paul Scholz Memorial Scholarship
(Essay required describing your interest in graduate studies and two letters of support verifying information in essay)Awarded to an undergraduate engineering student who best exemplifies academic and personal qualities that Dean Scholz represented such as integrity, leadership, and dedication to excellence. The scholarship is established to provide recognition and support for a student who plans to pursue a graduate degree program in engineering and possibly become a professor of engineering.
Cathy S. Hinton Scholarship
Awarded to a a female engineering student who is an Iowa resident, with first preference given to graduates of North Linn High School.
George L. & Gladys I. Petrik Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to deserving Iowa resident undergraduate students.
R. Milton Pierce Memorial Scholarship
Recipients are named after their sophomore year. Selection is based on financial need and academic promise. One annual scholarship is to be awarded to a female engineering student.
Vincent A. Mascagni Scholarship
Awarded to two students with a G.P.A. of 3.0 and who are in their sophomore, junior or senior year. First preference is given to graduates of Clinton County high schools. Next preference is given to graduates of eastern Iowa high schools.
William Lichtenberger Scholarship
Half of the funding directed to chemical engineering students and the other half directed to engineering students majoring in any other engineering department. The recipients must demonstrate financial need and be in good academic standing.
Plumly Tuition Scholarship
Awarded to worthy students in need of financial assistance. To be eligible, the student must have completed two years in the engineering curriculum and ranked in the upper 20% of his or her class in scholastic ability.
Mary V. Sheedy Scholarship
(Essay required- explain your contribution/service to the College/University community and describe the population served)Awarded to student with 30 + sh earned toward degree, demonstrate integrity of character and positive attitude, dedication to excellence both in personal and professional activities, hardworking and devoted to the field of engineering, service to the College or University community.
William C. Blackburn Engineering Scholarship
Must be a full-time upper-level student in good standing, should be a U.S. citizen of any ethnic background. He or she should be of good character, be an asset to the University, have a reasonable GPA, and show promise of being a solid addition to the engineering world.
Woodburn Scholarship
Awarded to a student in good academic standing with financial need.
Richard K. Miller Endowed Scholarship
(Essay required- describing what you hope to accomplish with the certificate + A letter of recommendation)Awarded to a student who has begun their studies in the Technological Entrepreneurship Certificate Program, have an Iowa cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, actively pursuing coursework toward a B.S. in Engineering.

Awarded to an industrial engineering major, junior standing. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, good academic standing, preference shall be given to a student from Woodbury County.
Kwo-Tseng Lee Scholarship
Awarded to first-year engineering students.
Hubbard Family Scholarship
Awarded to a first-year student, based on need and merit whose parents and grandparents did not have the opportunity to attend college. A first-generation college student.
Herm and Dianne Reininga Scholarship
To support undergraduate scholarships.
Richard and Alice Bogue Engineering Scholarship
Support for students in Ida Grove, Iowa, who demonstrate financial need, with preference given to students from Ida Grove/Battle Creek High School.
Dwight and Elsie Johnston Engineering Scholarship
First preference to students from O’Brien and/or Hancock Counties. Iowa residents. based on need and merit, to deserving students.

Scholarship to be awarded to deserving student, based on need and merit. Will be awarded to U.S. citizens (citizens by birth or naturalized citizens).

Awarded upon need and merit, to deserving students.
James Deluhery Engineering Scholarship
One scholarship to a sophomore-level student; one scholarship to a junior-level student; and one scholarship to a senior-level student. Need-based, U.S. citizens, must have graduated from an Iowa high school, GPA of 2.5 minimum.
Clifford and JoRuth Fudge Scholarship
Deserving students who graduated from high school in Iowa and is an Iowa resident; who has financial need (bottom 1/3 of group with most need); who has good character; is hard working; and may have been employed during high school. First preference is given to students involved in scouts or similar character building organization.
Robert F. and Mary J. Godwin Scholarship
Awarded to a resident of the State of Iowa, minimum ACT cumulative score of 28, 3.0 GPA or better.
Dr. H. L. Olin Scholarship
Awarded to chemical engineering students with financial need.
Clarence H. Clark Scholarship
The fund will be awarded to a biomedical engineering major at the beginning of his or her senior year. The recipient should be a United States citizen who has demonstrated an interest in pursuing graduate work in biomedical engineering. The recipient must be in good academic standing, with the preference given to those with financial need.
Hal W. Hunt Scholarship
Awarded to civil engineers showing promise to field of civil & environmental engineering, US citizen, good academic standing.
Archie N Carter Civil Engineering Scholarship
Awarded to civil engineers, financial need, US citizens, Iowa resident, entering first year through seniors considered.

Awarded to a civil undergraduate student.
