Problem #3
Water Budget
Application to a Parking Lot During a Storm
A storm produced intense rainfall on a shopping mall parking lot. The
average rainfall intensity (i) for each 5-min period was recorded, as
well as the instantaneous runoff rate (Q) at the outlet of the parking
lot's storm sewer. Use these data to
predict the maximum depth of ponded water (in inches) on the parking lot during
the storm.
- Compute the precipitation depth (in inches) for each 5-min interval of the
storm.
- Compute the depth of discharge (in inches) for each 5-min interval.
-
Compute the change in storage DS (in inches)
for each 5-min interval.
- Compute the storage depth S (in inches) at
the end of each 5-min interval. Assume that storage depth is initially
zero.
- What is the maximum depth of ponded water (in inches) for this storm?
