Problem #27
Flood Frequency Analysis for Ralston Creek at Iowa City (HEC-WRC)
Evaluate flood frequencies for Ralston Creek at Iowa City (USGS Station
Number 05455000) using the
computer program HEC-WRC, which uses a log Pearson type III
(LP3) distribution, and compare the results with the estimated based on a
extreme value type I (EV1) distribution (see Problem 26).
- Run the HEC-WRC program using the complete annual series flood record.
Submit a copy of the output and highlight the estimated 100-year return period
peak discharge.
- On a single graph:
- Plot the same items listed in Problem 26 (part e).
- Plot the LP3 quantile estimates (for the 2-, 5-, 10-, 25-, 50-, 100-, 200-, 500-year
return periods) versus an EV1 reduced variate (as a
line).
Download the ZIP
file containing sample input data
and the HEC-WRC program (along with a README file).
