Professor Peeples obtained her Ph.D. (1994) from The Johns Hopkins University studying the bioenergetics of extremophilic archaea with Professor R. Kelly. Post-doctoral research was at the California Institute of Technology with Professor M. Lidstrom (genetics of particulate Methane Monooxygenase). Tonya is currently an Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Iowa. She is a member of the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing. In 1996 she received a General Electric Faculty for the Future award. In 1997 She received a National Science Foundation CAREER award.
